Stand alongside older people in care this Christmas

Too many older people are denied support from their loved ones

When Simon moved into a care home, his son trusted he would be safe and properly cared for. But that trust was broken.

Over time, Simon’s care deteriorated. His basic needs were neglected. When his son raised concerns, the care home didn’t listen, they shut him out. He was soon banned altogether from visiting his father. At a time when Simon needed his son most, they were kept apart. Worried, and desperate, Simon’s son didn’t know where to turn. Until he found Care Rights UK.

Our adviser explained that what was happening was unlawful — a breach of Simon’s rights to family life, dignity, and proper care.

With our help, Simon was able to move to a more appropriate specialist care home. His son can now see him and support him, and they can spend precious time together, including at Christmas.

But Simon’s story is not unique.

Every day, especially in the run-up to Christmas, we hear from people facing poor care or unfair care decisions. People placed in residential care far from loved ones. Families or friends prevented from visiting. Or people prevented from going out to see their family for the holiday. These can leave older people to spend the festive period without their loved ones.

Care Rights UK exists to empower people to challenge these injustices. We provide free, expert advice to help people secure better care, defend their rights, and stay connected to the people they love.

Every older person deserves love, support, and advocacy this Christmas. Your donation today ensures that older people get the care they deserve at Christmas and every day.

Your gift today to our Christmas appeal could help in so many ways:

  • reunite families separated by unfair care decisions

  • guide someone through a confusing care process

  • help us challenge poor or inappropriate placements

  • ensure no one faces care decisions alone
