Fundraising from one end of the UK to the other!
07/08/2025
After losing three of his grandparents within just two weeks - including both grandfathers on the same day - Bobby Redding is taking on an extraordinary challenge to honour their memory: cycling the full length of the UK, to raise money for Care Rights UK.
He will be honouring James Shakeshaft, his mother’s father, who proudly claimed direct descent from Shakespeare; Bob Redding, his father’s father, affectionately known as Grandad Flintstone; and Peggy Redding who Bobby called “the funniest and most hard-working little Irish woman you could meet.”
Along the route from Land’s End to John O’Groats, he’ll be wild camping - making this already difficult journey even more demanding.
Bobby chose Care Rights UK as the beneficiary of his fundraiser because of the vital support we provide. When his family was navigating the complexities of care, they didn’t know what rights or resources were available. Bobby wants others to be aware of the advice they might need and the support available.
He explains:
"I’m doing this for Care Rights UK; a charity focused on the rights of older people in care. They offer information, advice, and support to help people understand what they’re entitled to - what they can ask for, and how the care system works. When my family was going through all this, we had no idea what support was available. Most people don’t - until they’re right in the middle of it."
"A charity like Care Rights UK is invaluable. So, I’m doing this ride for them. For my grandparents. For my family. And maybe for myself, too."
Bobby’s experience is a powerful reminder of the importance of knowing your rights when accessing care. We’re honoured to be part of his journey and very grateful to him for choosing us, and to everyone who has supported his cause.
You can donate now to support Bobby’s fundraiser and help more families access the advice they need.
